The Colorado Farm Bureau says farmers and ranchers who attend the annual Legislative and Leadership Summit in Denver next month will have a chance to bend the ear of lawmakers on important issues related to ag production.

Vice President of Advocacy, Shawn Martini says the Summit provides an opportunity for Farm Bureau members build leadership skills and become better spokespersons for agriculture with public officials and state legislators.

At its core it's about building relationships between farmer, ranchers and the legislators.

"The Legislative and Leadership Conference is a chance for Farm Bureau members from across the state to come into Denver and meet new legislators and existing state legislators early in the legislative session and help establish relationships between those legislators and agriculture producers around the state so that we know that the legislators understand how the industry works and have a tie to what's going on in the rural parts of Colorado so that farmers and ranchers can have a chance to influence public policy and make sure legislators know how the decisions that they're making under the golden dome in Denver impact rural Colorado in places that the legislators themselves may not always think about."

The Summit will features updates from policymakers and training on effectively communicating with elected officials.

The Legislative and Leadership Summit coincides with National Ag Day at the Capitol in Denver March 20th. Participants will also attend the Colorado Ag Day celebration at the State Capitol.
