The Colorado Corn Growers Association says it is not giving up on seeing an improved safety net system implemented for state producers.

The CCGA says the rural economic outlook paints a less than sunny picture for 2019.

CCGA made numerous attempts to get improved safety net and/or disaster assistance included in the 2018 Farm Bill to no avail.

"Colorado is maybe unique in that we've had multiple years of hail and drought and its really impacted producers here. The common response is that well you have crop insurance. Yes you do but the unfortunate circumstance is that there's a gap in that program:

Communications Director Kim Reddin. With low commodity prices, and trade uncertainty, farmers in Colorado are predicted to have the lowest net farm income levels in twenty years.

The Association is looking at both immediate and long-term solutions to the economic conditions. It says it is teaming up with the Southwest Council of Agribusiness (SWCA) to increase its odds of a better and more sustained financial outcome for farmers

The strategy also involves social media posts (#FarmersRSeeking Solutions), intended to let farmers know CCGA is aware of the economic stress and is working on solutions.
