House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway agrees with Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue's recent comments on NAFTA.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue expressed disappointment with the progress made in the first three rounds of North American Free Trade Agreement talks and said he expected the U.S., Canada and Mexico to make their positions clearer at the next round.

Prior to Conaway traveling to Ottawa to continue negotiations he had this to say.

"The broad message to our Canadian counterparts are you guys gotta get on the ball gotta get this done. Markets are being upset and anxiety is being created that's not good for trade among the three countries. The big deal with them is their supply management program for dairy. We want to talk to them about their wheat program they've got that I think they can fix relatively easily. I don't anticipate a lot of movement on the dairy side because it is such an intractable problem.

The next round of NAFTA talks, begin in Washington this week.
