Colorado Proud School Meal Day is Wednesday September 13th.

Schools around the state are using locally grown and produced foods in breakfasts and lunches. And students are learning about Colorado's rich agricultural history and healthy eating.

Wendy White is with the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

"We've done Colorado Proud School Meal Day for a number of years.

We provide free materials to schools to educate kids. Schools will often use Colorado ingredients on their breakfast and lunch menus on that day and really focus on Colorado Proud and the producers who provide the food on the kids' plates."

Information about the program is on the Colorado Department of Agriculture's website: www.coloradoproud.org.

More than 200,000 students statewide are expected to take part in the Colorado Proud School Meal Day event.

The website has a link the Colorado Farm Fresh Directory, a guide to farmers' markets and roadside stands in the state. The directory lists more than 200 farms, roadside stands, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, u-picks, restaurants, and features more than 100 farmers' markets across Colorado.
