Raise the Bar Amendment 71

Raise the Bar Amendment 71

With only California and Oregon having seen more citizen proposed ballot initiatives than Colorado, Amendment 71 — if passed this November — would make it harder to amend the state's constitution. Colorado Farm Bureau Associate Director of Communications John Dooley gives more details

Dooley: "Colorado Farm Bureau is pleased to hear that Amendment 71, Raise the Bar Protect our Constitution will officially make the ballot this November. This is ballot measure that we are strongly supporting and it needs to be passed. Colorado has been used as a playground for the last 10 or so years from outside interests that end up impacting rural Colorado. This ballot initiative is a good intuitive that will raise the standard for signature gatherers and just a standard to amend our constitution. It is time for outside interests to stop using Colorado."

Currently in Colorado the state requires the same initiative process to amend the constitution as it does to amend state laws.

Amendment 71 if passed would make it harder to amend Colorado's constitution by requiring future constitutional ballot initiative proponents to gather signatures from two percent of all registered voters in each of Colorado's 35 state senate districts. The proposal also requires approval from 55 percent of voters before a ballot amendment can be added to the constitution
