Feedback Sought From Co Ag Producers

During the next several weeks, USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service will be conducting two major mid-year surveys. NASS Mountain Region Director Bill Meyer says they are just beginning the state’s annual crop production and ag yield surveys. Just sent out the survey to approximately 300 winter wheat growers to share their assessment of the potential yield for this year’s projected winter winter yield.
Meyer: “That report will be coming out on May 10th and we will get Colorado’s projected yield along with the nations. The producers that are in this survey they will be contacted each month through harvest to see if things change — or if the crop gets bigger or smaller. We appreciate any help we can get on that because everybody is interested on how much wheat will be produced across the nation.”
At the end of May, CO NASS will sending out surveys to producers and finding out what is actually being planted. Meyer continues
Meyer: “Now this survey we are going to visit with 2,000 producers in Colorado and we will figure out what they actually planted. We know in Colorado how much winter wheat was planted but this is for the other crops. How much corn? How much hay will be harvested? How much sorghum will be planted milet, etc? That survey will be going on for about 2 weeks. So we will figure out what they have planted. Then also as part of that, we do our quarterly stock report where we calculate how much stock is on hand and that report will be coming out June 30th.”
