Western Dairy Partnerships

Western Dairy Partnerships. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

We recently spoke with Cindy Haren, President and CEO for the Western Dairy Association about the mission of the association and how they have grown over the years. Haren says that they have created a lot of different kinds of partnerships with common values.

HAREN: It could be the value of - we all want nutrition food or it could be the value of hey we really believe in agriculture so there's many different types of partnerships. Some of them are kind of non-traditional so you wouldn't think of maybe the dairy farmers had a relationship with the World Wildlife Fund but we do, it's a great relationship and we do a lot of sustainability work together.

And of course there are the more typical partnerships with companies like Walmart and other food companies.

HAREN: They come to us and they ask us for information about what is a dairy farm all about. What are you guys doing on the dairy farm for animal care so we reference them to the acronym FARM. It's farmers assuring responsible management. This is a really big program we're doing nationwide with all of our dairy farmers.

She talks about why these partnerships are so important.

HAREN: And the reason why I wanted to drive home the partnership piece; the reason that's so important is that by bringing all that diverse group together we can really get things out on th table and really get new ideas and new innovations, new technology that you see our farmers continuing to adopt on the farm.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
