Ag Industry Raises Thousands for Good Cause & Emergency Visa Waivers

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

104 players participated in this year’s Ag World Support Systems annual fund raising golf tournament in Kennewick, June 15, and Ag World Support Systems Founder and Chief Development Officer, Warren Henninger, says that thanks to their 88 sponsors and donors they were able to raise $61 thousand for the Spokane Ronald McDonald House, nearly double what was raised last year.

HENNINGER: We’re getting a lot of recognition in the Columbia Basin and Idaho and up Canada as well; so it’s becoming quite an event, and (we’re) looking forward to next year’s event which is going to be on June 13. We’re looking forward to an even larger event next year, as we’ve got additional sponsors that want to be part of it, and some that want to participate heavier than they did this year.

At 11:00 am today WAFLA members will be able to participate in a web update on the visa crisis that has left ag workers stranded at the border just as summer harvest gets under way. WAFLA’s Dan Fazio reports that the State Department has accepted WAFLA’s petition for emergency visa waivers, marking the first time that they have accepted emergency visa waivers for farm workers. WAFLA members may request a copy of the web updates by contacting Kim Bresler at wafla.org.

That’s Washington Ag Today.
