Bath Time Lessons

Sometimes you can be given just a little too much responsibility as a kid. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back in one minute to explain. Ranch and farm kids are given responsibility and grown-up jobs at young ages and most times perform commendably. Many rural youngsters drive trucks, tractors and other equipment at any early age. Ranch kids wrangle the horses when they're needed and gather and move cattle many times without adult help. Doing the best you can is expected and I believe this helps country kids appreciate work and learn accountability. My nephew and I helped the neighbors work and spray their cattle for flies the other day and it reminded me of a time my Dad might have given me a job a little over my head. We were spraying insecticide on our cattle, when Dad let me run the spray gun while he moved some cattle by the spray area. My younger cousin was in the corral also and I swear I thought the flies were overwhelming him as I turned the jet stream on him. Mom was watching from outside the corral and started my verbal discipline immediately. Dad heard her, saw what I had done, grabbed the spray gun and turned it on me. Mom's outrage focused on Dad then, telling him now she had two kids and two sets of clothes to wash. Yea, I got in trouble, but I took Dad down with me. Oh, the insecticide didn't affect either one of us. My cousin became very successful in the fruit growing industry and I only get goofy once in a while. I'm Jeff Keane, I think.
