MD Barns Honors Special Equines

Special, isn't really a strong enough word to describe some horses. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be right back to tell you why I say that.Anyone who has worked with horses have their special one, but there are those that are special to all horse people. The three finalists for the MD Barns Silver Spur Award are those kind of horses. Docacoo, owned by Skip Gentry of West Salem, Ohio is a 34 year old equine that nurtures and inspires people with difficult medical problems and raises money for hospice through his fan club's annual birthday parties. Carolyn M. Richens of Maine owns Monas Little Guy and even though she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, the good horse "Moses" won't let her slow down. Carolyn and Moses have become MS ambassadors helping others cope with the affliction. My Rockin Ryon is owned by Warden, Montana, couple Calvin and Suanne Stenger, but is ridden by 10-year old daughter Bailee Stenger. Bailee was diagnosed with epilepsy at age three and would have up to 30 seizures a day. While traveling to a barrel racing event Bailee's pony died, so her parents cautiously tried letting Bailee run barrels on"Rocky." Usually Rocky was excited and ran into the arena, but with Bailee he walked in and loped slowly around the barrel pattern. While bridling Rocky one time, Bailee had a seizure and as her mom tried to get to her, Rocky stood like a granite statue with no halter or bridle as Bailee jerked between his front legs. And the winner of the 2008 MD Barns Silver Spur Award is - My Rockin Ryon. I would think so. I'm Jeff Keane.
