Response from What's Upstream and EPA Pt 3

I'm Bob Larson. Frustrations mount after the response from What's Upstream and the EPA that state campaign laws don't apply to them.

Save Family Farming's Gerald Baron says statements made in April by the EPA Administrator led them to believe the agency was aware of the mis-spent funds and was taking care of the matter ...

GERALD BARON ... "What's particularly troublesome about this is that, now with the tribes making the statement that they are free from any constraints of state campaign law to spend that money in any way that they want, and the EPA Director saying the EPA has no control over how they spend the money, with full knowledge that the tribes are saying we can use that money for as much political activity without any accountability or disclosure as we want."

Baron says the response comes after the EPA gave the tribes ANOTHER $25-Million dollars despite objections from lawmakers like Dan Newhouse ...

GERALD BARON ... "So I think it's very appropriate for Representative Newhouse to be asking the EPA to not proceed with that funding until, first of all, an investigation into the What's Upstream campaign can be completed, and until they have assurance that these funds, intended for environmental restoration, will not be used for continuing illegal political activity."

He says the Northwest Tribal Fisheries Commission and the EPA are basically thumbing their noses at tax-payers.

Baron expects a decision from the PDC or the state Attorney General on the violations by the end of the month.
