Cowboy Senate Resolution

Cowboys have been an integral part of not only our nation’s history but Washington state history as well. Far from being just a subject of folklore and movie fodder, today’s cowboy remain a working “symbol” of the American West, managing cattle, patrolling ranch perimeters, and protecting livestock from predators. An effort to recognize the cowboy by designating a “National Day of the Cowboy” has been gaining ground across the country, with several states preparing to pass state resolutions to do just that. State Senator Sharon Brown has taken up the reins to push for a National Day of the Cowboy here in Washington.

BROWN: On April 11 we are going to be doing a Senate Resolution, which I’ve sponsored, which is honoring “National Day of the Cowboy”. We’re going to be doing it in conjunction with “Beef Day” here on the hill, which will be very exciting because that’s the day when the beef producers come and flip burgers on the hill.

Brown explains why she got behind the effort to create a National Day of the Cowboy bill here in the state.

BROWN: Cowboys and cowgirls are a very integral part still today of our district, and our agriculture, and just our values. So it was important to me that we get this out there and as soon as I put it out it just gained lots of traction, and a lot of the other senators who are in more metropolitan areas really understand the importance of cowboys to the state. You know, where would the state be without our cowboys?

I couldn’t have said it better myself Senator Brown.
