Want to get rid of manure…and I’m not talking about voting certain politicians out of office…then you can attend a composting class in the Magic Valley. We are hearing terms such as ecology, carbon footprints, global warming, atmospheric pollutants, and so on at every turn in the road or switch of the dial. Some folks make a living out of it, some are genuinely concerned as stewards of the earth and lots of people don’t give a….doggone. But the University of Idaho Extension service is trying to do a little something by talking about composting.

There’s an in-depth, “train-the-trainer” program that will be offered in February at the Wendell City Hall. It’s intended for school teachers and other educators interested in learning how to use resources wisely and reduce environmental impacts.

Here’s Mario de Haro Marti an Extension educator on the subject of getting rid of manure: “All different type of critters that eat manure or other organics. You say you can introduce critters that will eat manure? Yes like black soldier flies, dung beatles and other organics other than anaerobic digesters.”

This isn’t for big cafo operations or feed lots but if you’ve got a small farm, it might be worth an evening to go and listen. Details on our web site aginfo.net.
