I found some news that will be of great interest to Northwest farmers. The USDA was recently in Central Washington explaining the benefits of the recently expanded Whole Farm Revenue Protection. Risk Management Agency Associate Administrator Tim Gannon says WFRP can be a good fit for highly diversified operations. "Multiple crops and some livestock, $2 million worth of livestock and up to $1 million worth of nursery under one umbrella policy. You can keep your multi-peril crop insurance if you would like, this is a way to bring everything in your farm operation under one policy."

Whole-Farm can cover up to $8.5 million in insured revenue, or liability.  Gannon noted the program can also help producers manage risk: "Producers say this has helped them rest more easily knowing that their revenue is protected from one year to the next. It is help them with their operating loans at the bank because the banker knows they are protected on the revenue side."

Gannon noted Whole Farm is open to both conventional and organic farming.  And for 2015, of the nearly 1,100 policies sold, 800 came from the Northwest.

If you're interested in Whole-Farm for 2017, contact the RMA office in Spokane.
